Inertia / Digital Illustration / 2016 – 2017
Inertia is a series of fifty narrative illustrations inspired by contemporary dance practices. This year-long project was created through phases of shooting videos and sketching, followed by a combination of digital drawing and scanned hand-painted elements.
The work is divided into eight sequences which follow the movements of a figure in its inertia. The figure meets abstract motifs and everyday objects which are used as emitters of force-flow elements borrowed from contemporary dance. Detaching dance from its temporal and spatial context and appropriating it into the two-dimensional space of an image, it loses its fluidity. It is interrupted in its performative sense but the meaning of such movements is endlessly emitted. This unperformable choreography, that always remains a sketch, becomes the finished piece.
